For our blog, we will be posting on restaurants around Kennesaw State University that are affordable and appealing to college students. We wanted to focus on those who aren’t the generic restaurants that you immediately think of when you’re out like Chick-Fil-A or Cook Out. But the restaurants on our list we chose because it allows us to enjoy a night on the town while also staying conservative with our money. And of course, because we are college students we will be attending local breweries with tasting rooms. We hope to be able to pick restaurants that scream exotic and fun. So, each of us (Royland, Leslie, and Rachael) chose nine restaurants, three each, to attend for this blog.

Leslie’s list is comprised of Dry County, First Watch, and The Nest. The first place we will attend will be Dry County a local brewery right here in Kennesaw. This brewery distributes to a number of restaurants and stores in the area and has seen great success with sales with their alcohol. The second place we hope to attend will be First Watch. Now First Watch is an interesting choice because they sell Mexican Food. Not being a huge Mexican food guy myself I am intrigued and excited to see if this place can change my mind. This might be one of the priciest places on the list but it’s also a well known establishment and has quality service. The Nest is the final restaurant on Leslie’s list and probably the best in terms of food quality. They serve BBQ and if there is one thing that I love it is BBQ. There menu ranges from smoked chicken to nachos, and even bacon and nest eggs. With affordable entrees only costing five to six dollars this restaurant is sure to rank high on the list.

Rachael’s list is comprised of Taco Del Chavo, Curry Indian Village Restaurant, and Dry County Brewing Company. The first restaurant we will be attending on Ms. Amatriain’s list will be Taco Del Chavo. Once again, a Mexican restaurant but this one is different because it offers more of a home type vibe. In many of the comments they say that the restaurant owners and staff make you feel like part of the family. An article of the restaurant goes as far as to call it a hidden gem, so needless to say this will be one that has a lot of expectations going in. The second place on her list is Curry Indian Village Restaurant. This is an Indian cuisine restaurant, one of only a few India restaurants in Kennesaw. They have very reasonable reviews on Yelp and seem to have a decent following on Facebook. They even offer recipes on their main website and Facebook to help garner traffic and likes. And the final place on Rachael’s list is Dry County Brewing Company. Now besides having the coolest logo I have ever seen, they have a reputation for distributing beer that packs a punch. They are known for appealing to the college atmosphere with the vibe they give off. They post things about "Making Your Run" and have a strong presence a college parties from the looks of their social media.

Royland’s list is comprised of On the Boarder, Tin Lizzy’s, and Fuji Hana. Of course, I have the best list. And because I don’t drink anything but water my list of places doesn’t include a brewery. Now let’s start with Fuji Hana which seems like the most expensive place on this list- and is- but it does have specials on Monday for one dollar sushi. That might be a little misleading because I assumed it meant for a role but in reality, it meant the ingredients put in the sushi. However, it isn’t that bad, it usually only cost around four to five dollars which is pretty affordable. The second restaurant that I chose was Tin Lizzy’s. Everyone and their mothers have seemingly been to this restaurant except for me which is why I am considering this a newer place. Now yes they are known for their margaritas, and I said I wasn’t a drinker, but they also seem to have a decent menu. Even as someone who doesn’t like Mexican food I am excited to see what they have to offer. And finally, On the Boarder, like I said I am not a huge fan of Mexican food but I have heard very promising things of this place. It is a grill and cantina that apparently have mesquite grilled fajitas that are to die for… but in the end I will be the judge of that.

Overall we have a pretty strong list of restaurant but some might be subject to change. We are always looking for new places to try and if we get any popular suggestion we might just check it out. Now I want to be clear we are not going to order everything off the menu, nor will we order the most popular items on the menu. We are looking for food that is cheap and edible at best. We are college students not food critics looking to save money. I am excited to see what Kennesaw has to offer in terms of food and prices. At the end of this blog we will give a list of worst to best restaurants to dine at and which ones offer the best deals in terms of pricing and quantity of food. We hope to be able to give a definitive guide of restaurants for students to find edible food for the fraction of the price of your normal dine in restaurant. That is why our blog is called balling on a budget. Feel free to email us with your opinions and suggestions for restaurants to attend. We look forward to hearing back from you. And will be updating our posts in the weeks to come!
