Beer Me, Bro!

Beer is the source of life for some, especially college students. At least I can speak for myself when I say this and being one. Now beer has been around for quite a bit, but breweries and this new growth behind this industry is on another level. Over the span of 2017 alone, 997 craft breweries had opened their doors to thirsty beer snobs all around the U.S. This left 2,252 brewpubs, 3,812 micro, and 202 regional with a total of 6,266 operating throughout the U.S. in 2017. This leaves us beer snobs and college drinkers with a lot of drinking spots to choose from!
Now, it is great to live in Kennesaw and be so close to Atlanta, with only about a thirty to forty minute drive until you reach the sweet spots of the city where a lot of the fun occurs. The city has some of the best breweries and highest appreciated micro pubs Georgia has to offer; Monday Night Brewing, Sweet Water, and Orpheus are a few to name. However, spending money at places like these lead to drinking alcohol, which leads to intoxication and depending on the number of drinks consumed, no one should or wants to risk driving after a few good brews. Plus, the Uber from Atlanta back to Kennesaw is about a twenty-five mile trek that most aren’t willing to pay. This being said, why bother driving all the way into the city to get some nice cold brews when you can likely find one within a 10 mile radius to you? As college students ballin’ on a budget, but leaving some wiggle room in that budget for all our beer needs, Marietta and Kennesaw have a number of craft breweries that are well worth passing up a trip to Monday Night Brewing and seeing what your local brewers have to offer!
One that I frequent often is Dry County Brewing Company. Luckily for me, this hot Kennesaw brew spot is 2.5 miles away from my house. Not necessarily good for my bank account, or my progress on my summer body, but there’s always tomorrow to worry about being a health nut. As far as location from campus, it is an easy right turn out of the main entrance from Kennesaw State University’s campus, a simple straight ride past two lights, then a quick right turn onto Lockhart drive.
Dry County is not always packed-out, but when it is, the crowd really brings it. The brewery is located in a big warehouse, with an outside area for fellow brew drinkers to enjoy their brews outdoors while they are playing some corn hole or just enjoying the blue sky’s Kennesaw has to offer. Once you enter the establishment, you are greeted by an assortment of arcade style games, or ones someone would typically see at a bar. There is a pool table, a dartboard, and of course the classic deer hunting game. Walking past these enticing games, you enter the most important room in the building. After you pass the bathrooms and through the big green hallway, you have now entered the pour room. The room where all the magic happens, the room to quench your thirst and satisfy that #ThurstyThursday bug.
Like most breweries, Dry County has weekly specials that help draw in their crowd, if the tasty beer wasn’t incentive enough. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are the nights to really “make your run” to Dry County Brewing Company and sip on those cold brews. Tuesday nights are typically known for trivia and industry nights. This is where you bring your brains to the brews and see just how much you’ve learned in your 21+ years of hearing random facts. Dry County Brewing offers first, second, and third, and last place prizes for teams participating. The first place prize holders receive 30% off their entire tab, second place 20% off, third palace a free growler to-go, and the same for last place. On top of this, they offer random drawing for free 4oz pours through out the night. So beer and prizes for showing off your brain skills, who could say no to that? Also, since Tuesdays are industry night, any current service industry employee will receive 50% off their entire tab from open to close. Gotta’ show love to the ones who serve!
The next special night offered at Dry County Brewing Company is on Thursday nights and since most students don’t take Friday classes, this is the big college night at Dry County. Why else would there be days like #ThurstyThursdays? On these #ThirstyThursday college nights, Dry County is offering $3 Lechuza pints, which is one of their Mexican Style Lager craft brews, plus a 10% discount off the top of your tab with your student ID. Dry County is just trying to show us hard working college rock stars some appreciation for our dedication to pushing it to the end. Their final event night of the week is held on Fridays, and it coined “Friday Night Flight”. Where you will be allowed to buy three 4oz tasters and the fourth will be on Dry County! What a great way to get to try al the beers they have to offer.
This leads me to Dry County’s craft brewery list that you don’t want to miss. They offer four year long beers; the Dry County IPA, Noon Day IPA, Old 41, and the Lechuza. The four limited beers that they offer are the; Damn It All, Kennesaw Bourbon Ale, Dank County, and Neon Pink. On top of these great offers, Dry County Brewing Company offers “Tasting Room To-Go Beer” which includes, a 6 pack of their IPA, a 22oz of their Imperial Chocolate Milk Porter, Damn It All 22oz Porter, and last but not least a Dry County 2 Gallon Mini keg for your taking.

Now, if you want my “expert” opinion on which beers to give a taste to I will likely lead you to the Neon Pink brew, simply because the name is on point, the graphics are sweet to look at, and of course it is a thirst quencher. But don’t take my work for it, do yourself a favor and “Make Your Run!”.
