Now to pay homage to one of our editors in chief (Leslie Boyd) we chose to visit the awesome TexMex restaurant Tin Lizzy’s. Our dear friend Leslie happens to be a server at this amazing restaurant. So needless to say they have excellent service here. The reason I chose this restaurant was to stay with the theme of cheap food and apparently Mexican food. They are famous for their dishes along with their margaritas. A driving force behind the restaurant is that they are a great place to meet friends after work. A fun college place to kickback and let loose after a long day.

As for the food I’m not the biggest fan of Mexican food I have stated that in my previous two posts and I will continue to harp on that but this place offers a lot more than just Mexican. They offer a DIY quesadilla and salad that can come with a plethora of sides. A lot of what Tin Lizzy’s prides itself on is it’s TexMex. Now if you are unfamiliar with what TexMex is (like I was) it is Tex-Mex is a fusion of Mexican and American cuisines, deriving from the culinary creations of Tejanos. Now I had the pleasure of enjoying one of these dishes with beef, jalapeno, queso, and other mouthwatering ingredients that I would not mind having again.

One thing I personally enjoyed in the restaurant was the feel. They gave you a very downtown type vibe with a nice open restaurant bar feel. They have very interesting pictures and painting on the wall that were kind of derivative of Zaxby’s. They have photos with witty quotes and pictures from the past that had kind of dark or crude humor. I will say however that they have much better service than Zaxby’s.

The hours of operation are convenient too they are from 11am to 2am so if you do get a buzz it won’t be too difficult to let it wear off at the restaurant you have a couple hours to sober up. And the location is perfect they are less than five minutes away from campus. Which is the perfect drive for students interested in going and getting a quick drink.

Some background information on Tin Lizzy’s: it is a relatively young company opening in 2005 by four friends in Buckhead. Since then it has been awarded eleven different honors including #33 of 100 hottest restaurants and Atlanta’s best Mexican by Hot Dish Review. It is also a very charitable restaurant including giving to companies like Bert’s Big Adventure which takes terminally ill children or kids who suffer from chronic diseases to Disney World. Another company they donate to is the Giving Kitchen which provides financial grants to restaurant and employees in need. And finally, the last two companies which are American Cancer Society and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Two companies I avidly support especially since my mother was diagnosed with cancer.

On rainy days they offer the special of free queso to entice customers and have a great special on days that most find eery and miserable. You do have to have a purchase of at least ten dollars but thats the cost of a meal so the queso is just a free appetizer.

Overall the quality of this restaurant is top notch and the people are great. I give it an eight out of ten because it definitely isn’t the fanciest restaurant you will ever visit it is something worth going and spending a little family time. Which is something I did not really mention is they are kid friendly even though they are known for their alcohol. They have kid’s menus as well as “drawing books” which I put those in quotations because they call them that but it’s nothing more than a piece of paper with a couple of crayons. But back to what I was saying before this restaurant is also critically acclaimed by multiple media outlets winning all of their awards in 2016 and 2017. Which means they are near the peak. If given the opportunity stop by the restaurant it gives a very college like culture.
